“The Java Basin, including West Java Basin, Central Java Basin, East Java Basin and Java Sea Basin has long been known as the primary oil and producers in Indonesia.
Back arc basins of Western Indonesia accounts for 85% of Indonesia’s Hydrocarbon reserves, while Banyumas Central Java Basin has been reported as having numerous oil sleeps. East Java Basin is the most wanted area in Indonesia for bidding petroleum acreage in 2000-2005, making it a “hotspot” exploration (Satyana, 2010). Major oil discoveries such as Cepu field (blora) and Jatibarang field (Cirebon) located in this area, along with major oil disaster, The Sidoarjo Mud Volcano.
